Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) is an Australian Government agency which provides support and information for:
- veterans and their dependants
- Australian Defence Force personnel
- war widows/widowers
- Australian participants in British Nuclear Tests in Australia
- members of the Australian Federal Police, and
- students, teachers and historians.
Open Arms provides free and confidential, nation-wide counselling and support for war and service-related mental health conditions, such as posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety and depression.
Open Arms also provides relationship and family counselling to address issues that can arise due to the unique nature of military service. Open Arms counsellors have an understanding of military culture and can work with clients to find effective solutions for improved mental health and wellbeing.
The Black Dog Institute is dedicated to understanding, preventing and treating mental illness.
The Anzac Centre is part of the Phoenix Centre for post-traumatic mental health, focusing on the mental health of veterans. Services are anticipated to commence in the second half of 2018.
